Specific Responsibility: Leads tooling projects giving tooling group guidance and direction to ensure alignment with project deliverables. Works independently on new or revised 3D designs of production or prototype fixturing. Troubleshoot production problems related to tooling and/or fixturing. Check and approve completed designs by other tooling designers or engineers. Works closely with internal toolshop in diagnosing tooling issues when needed. Assists the local toolshop in ordering of raw materials. Work with internal and external tool shops on the manufacture of tools and fixtures. This includes assisting supply chain in the quoting of tool and fixture builds and submission of purchase requests. Maintaining communication with toolshops to provide updates to relevant team members. Create necessary job aids and work instructions to assist production areas and provide necessary training when required. Works on continuous improvement projects for tooling related to, but not limited to design, machining processes, cost savings etc. Perform other duties as assigned by Tooling Engineering Manager Utilizes, monitors and recommends improvements or changes to all systems for the production of Tool Designs required and ensures compliance with structured internal Quality Systems as measured by routine system audits. Properly utilize and maintain digital file storage system to protect and control the electronic data generated within Greene, Tweed Engineering function. Assist with the creation of and work within the work instructions and guidelines set forth for internal tool design standards.

Requirements

  • 5 years mechanical design experience.
  • Highly skilled/technical mechanical design and use of 3D CAD systems (Solidworks preferred).
  • Ability to use basic hand measurement tools (calipers, depth mics, indicator ect…)
  • Ability to communicate clearly and work in a team environment.
  • This position requires U.S. Person status as defined by applicable law for authorized access to data controlled under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). A U.S. Person includes U.S. Citizens, U.S. Nationals, lawful permanent residents, and workers granted refugee or asylum status in the United States.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience designing tooling and fixturing preferred
  • Experience working with plastics and/or elastomer products in a manufacturing role preferred.
  • Machine shop/toolshop exposure
  • Lean Six Sigma exposure
  • 3D Experience PLM software exposure (3DX)
