We have an exciting opportunity for a Tooling Engineer located in Fremont, OH. The Tooling Engineer is responsible for the design, development, and optimization of high-quality tooling systems, with a primary focus on thermoforming applications. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience designing precision tooling by accurately interpreting project requirements, ensuring it meets all criteria in the sales order and is manufacturable.

Requirements

  • A minimum of an associate’s degree in engineering technology, mechanical engineering technology or a related field; prefer bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.
  • Two years of mechanical design experience, with strong focus on tooling design.
  • Experience with CNC machining, mold making, or tool room operations.
  • Knowledge of thermoforming processes, material and heat transfer principles.
  • Proficient in SolidWorks and/or SolidEdge to create detailed manufacturing designs.
  • Experience with design for manufacturability (DFM) and GD&T.
  • A minimum requirement for this position is the ability to work legally in the United States on a permanent basis. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position.

Responsibilities

  • Thoroughly review sales orders and customer supplied documentation to ensure a clear understanding of the project.
  • Design and develop thermoforming tooling systems, including molds, dies, trim tools, and fixtures.
  • Create detailed 3D models and engineering drawings using SolidEdge.
  • Lead tooling projects from concept through design, validation, and implementation.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, production, and quality teams to ensure tooling designs meet performance, quality, and cost targets.
  • Perform design reviews, tolerance analysis, and simulations as needed.
  • Troubleshoot tooling issues on the production floor and implement design improvements.
  • Keep management informed of the project status when dealing with design concerns, customer requests, lack of information, or schedule problems.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, including BOMs, drawings, calculations and engineering change orders.
  • Continuously improve tooling standards and design best practices.
  • Occasional travel to customer plants or other BMG facilities as projects necessitate.
