About The Position

The Tooling Engineer is responsible for defining tooling requirements based on customer feedback and company tooling standards. They will also be responsible for project mold design reviews with internal and external customers and managing the overall build schedule following it through from design to buy off of the tool.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of a minimum 2-4 year post-secondary program; design, mechanical, and manufacturing engineering are considered an asset
  • Successful completion of a mold design/mold maker apprenticeship considered an asset
  • 3-5 years of experience in injection mold design/mold tooling
  • Ability to show versatility and resourcefulness when problem solving
  • Attention to detail and accuracy when preparing and reviewing mold designs
  • Ability to adapt to changing demands from customers as well as fellow team members
  • Strong interpersonal skills; having to communicate with several people at once
  • Ability to organize priorities based on deadlines and importance of tasks
  • Manage time efficiently while working on several different tasks at once
  • Sense of creativity when designing a mold, and when having to change and adapt to different specifications
  • Must have a valid driver’s license

Nice To Haves

  • Automotive experience is considered to be an asset

Responsibilities

  • Involved in the analysis of technical data (drawings, data, and sketch, etc.) Provides insight into manufacturability of products based on drawing or design
  • Offers feedback to customers and offers suggestions on possible design changes in order to improve part feasibility
  • Create mold specifications; Support tool shop selection and further discuss specifications of the mold build
  • Attend weekly meetings with the customer
  • Design review: ensure tooling is designed to internal and external customer standards
  • Manage tool shops to ensure tools stay on track to progress and schedule
  • Attend tool trials to ensure design meets manufacturability and is built to standards
  • Track progress of all tools to ensure issues are closed out before buy off to the manufacturing plant
  • Works with manufacturing plant tooling team to troubleshoot issues
  • Manage & negotiate tooling costs meeting customer budgets in a timely manner
  • Provide technical support to departments within the tech center and Vuteq plants
  • Act as communication lead to internal and external stakeholders regarding tooling status/concerns
  • Capture lessons learned from previous projects and correct/mitigate for future projects
  • Support and maintain environmental initiatives that reduce waste, energy consumption, and operational impact
  • Ensure team member compliance with all environmental regulations, policies and industry standards.
