This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities. As part of a hardworking team of engineers, designers, and fabricators, you will be responsible for planning, facilitating, and driving the build, integration, and commissioning of large tooling and factory automation systems. Working directly with the design engineers, fabricators, tool builders, and production teams, you will be tasked with managing/supporting planning, facility integration, production communication, supply chain coordination, and overall project management of tool build, integration, and commissioning. Requirements

  • Strong technical understanding of tooling design, fabrication, and integration methods and processes including CNC machining, manual mills and lathes, welding, sheet-metal bending, tool building, electrical integration, lifting/rigging, assembly, inspection, etc.
  • Proven ability to manage multi-discipline projects, schedules, and system-level integrations.
  • Experience using CAD software (Creo, Catia, and/or NX) for model manipulation, drawing access, measurement, information gathering, etc.
  • Ability to interpret and apply sound design and drafting standards (ASME Y14.5)

Nice To Haves

  • Strong expertise in design for manufacturability (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA)
  • Proven understanding of common manufacturing materials, GD&T, and tolerance/stack-up analysis
  • Familiarity with industry standards, such as ASME BTH-1, ACI 318, JSC-65289, and NASA SP-8077
  • Experience with custom machine design and installation: motors, actuators, linear rails/actuators, pneumatics, hydraulics, bearings, etc.
  • Experience with Windchill and/or Teamcenter PLM software

Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, and drive execution of large complex tooling installation and commissioning activities.
  • Work directly with Design Engineering and Fabrication teams to understand deliverables and provide real time problem solving to support fabrication.
  • Plan and facilitate all tooling integration activities with adjacent support groups including Production Operations, Supply Chain, Facilities, Transport, Logistics, Crane Ops, outside vendors, etc.
  • Provide technical support with regard to tooling functional and engineering requirements, through fabrication, integration, and commissioning processes.
  • Capable of supporting multiple projects in a fast-paced environment -- projects will vary in size and scale.
  • Handle a wide range of technical design challenges related to all types of assembly fixtures, material handlers, rotisseries, test fixtures, structural weldments, environmental chambers, and custom machines.
  • Close collaboration with component designers, manufacturing engineers, and integration engineering to achieve the best possible metrics (safety, cost, quality, delivery, reliability, and maintenance/refurbishment)
  • Establish, implement, and adhere to schedules and budgets to ensure project completion.
  • Facilitate effective and collaborative communication by fostering creativity and using team member strengths.
