About The Position

The Inventory Control Specialist is responsible for managing and improving tooling inventory within the tool room to support machining and manufacturing operations. This role will take ownership of establishing a structured, accurate, and efficient inventory control process. The successful candidate will evaluate current practices, improve or replace ineffective systems such as CribMaster usage, and implement disciplined controls to ensure tooling availability, accountability, and traceability. This position requires a hands-on, detail-oriented individual who understands inventory control in a machining environment and can bring organization and accountability to a critical function.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in inventory control within a manufacturing or machine shop environment
  • Strong understanding of tooling used in CNC machining and fabrication operations
  • Experience implementing or improving inventory systems and processes
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative to build and improve systems
  • Experience with inventory tracking software or systems such as CribMaster
  • Strong attention to detail and accountability

Nice To Haves

  • Experience managing a tool room or tooling inventory program
  • Background supporting CNC machining operations
  • Experience with inventory optimization and cost control strategies
  • Familiarity with ERP systems and inventory reporting

Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of the tool room and all tooling inventory used in machining operations
  • Assess current inventory practices and implement a structured inventory control system
  • Improve or redesign use of CribMaster or implement better processes for tracking tooling
  • Establish clear procedures for issuing, returning, and tracking tools
  • Maintain accurate real-time inventory levels and records
  • Organize tool room layout for efficiency, visibility, and control
  • Track tool usage, consumption, and reorder points to avoid shortages or overstocking
  • Work closely with machinists, supervisors, and purchasing to ensure tooling needs are met
  • Identify high-usage and critical tooling and ensure proper stocking levels
  • Implement accountability measures for tool check-out and return
  • Conduct regular cycle counts and audits to maintain inventory accuracy
  • Reduce loss, waste, and inefficiencies related to tooling management
  • Maintain documentation, labeling, and identification of all tooling
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to inventory, cost control, and production efficiency
  • Ensure a clean, organized, and safe tool room environment
  • Follow all company policies, procedures, and safety requirements
