About The Position

This role involves performing a variety of tasks related to the maintenance, repair, and creation of tools, dies, and fixtures. The technician will be responsible for ensuring a safe work environment, performing preventative maintenance, and operating various machine shop tools. Precision, attention to detail, and troubleshooting skills are essential for success in this position. The role also includes assisting other personnel and completing necessary paperwork.

Requirements

  • High degree of precision and control in work where damage could be high and where muscular control and delicate touch are required.
  • High degree of attention and care required, preventing injury to self and others when operating machine tools.
  • Possess good troubleshooting skills.
  • Able to pull and set-up tooling.
  • Must have valid forklift operator’s license (or be willing to be trained before starting job assignment).

Responsibilities

  • Wears all required safety equipment and ensures area and environment is safe.
  • Perform preventative maintenance as required.
  • Clean and organize area, keep area free of clutter and safety hazards – 6S.
  • Reads and interprets blueprints or works from verbal or written instructions or from the part to be copied or fitted.
  • Plans the setup and operation of all types of machine shop tools, considering types of material, tolerances, types of cutting tools, coolants, lubricants and machine tool feeds and speeds.
  • Heat-treats and welds parts as required.
  • Determines specifications for inspection of work, using precision measuring and gaging tools, performing required inspection before, during and after machining.
  • Performs hand operations involved in producing jigs, fixtures, tools and dies. Uses hand tools of the trade.
  • Fits and assembles jigs, fixtures, tools and dies. Sets up, runs off and tests dies to produce a product to specifications, tracing die difficulties to their source and correcting same.
  • Tear down, repairs and reassembles tooling on the bench or in the press as required.
  • Assists other tool room personnel with troubleshooting skills or ideas.
  • Assists Press Operators with troubleshooting tooling during production runs.
  • Process hourly/daily paperwork as required.
  • Does in-press P.M.’s as scheduled.
  • Other duties as required.
