About The Position

Manufactures tool and dies for various production machines. Analyzes specifications, lays out metal stock, sets up and operates machine tools, and fits and assembles parts to make and repair dies, cutting tools, jigs, fixtures, gauges, and machinists' hand tools. This role involves troubleshooting problems on production machines and repairing all types of stamping dies. The Journeyman will plan the sequence of operations, fabricate and assemble all types and sizes of tools and dies from design and engineering information, and operate various machines such as milling machines, lathes, surface grinders, and jig bores. Responsibilities also include fabricating and assembling tools and dies of irregular contours, including checking fixtures and precision gauges, and performing OD and surface grinding. The position requires verifying dimensions, alignments, and clearances of finished parts using precision measuring instruments, studying blueprints to plan fabrication sequences, and recognizing and initiating action to prevent cosmetic non-conformances. Adherence to 5S department procedures, housekeeping duties, and all required training is essential. Employees are responsible for complying with all Federal, Local, and State government regulations, LISI Aerospace policies, and HSE Procedures, including attending all provided training and reporting any non-conformance.

Requirements

  • AA degree in related field or High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required; and completion of a craft apprenticeship, or a minimum of 5 years of related experience and/or training.
  • Read and interpret blueprints or other job specifications.
  • Ability to make all inspections on machined parts using precision measuring equipment.
  • Basic knowledge of mainframe computer systems.
  • Familiarity with Spreadsheet and Word Processing software.
  • Ability to read a limited number of two and three syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and series of numbers.
  • Ability to print and speak simple sentences.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Evidence of “US person” is required under ITAR.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoots problems on production machines and repairs all types of stamping dies when necessary.
  • Plans the sequence of operations, fabricates and assembles all types and sizes of tools and dies from tool design and engineering information.
  • Sets up and operates a variety of machines such as the milling machine, lathe, surface grinder, jig bore in fabrication of tools and dies.
  • Fabricates and assembles all types of sizes of tools and dies of irregular contours (including checking fixtures and precision gauges) such as progressive dies, and compound dies.
  • Operates machine tools in fabrication of tools and dies as required.
  • OD and surface of grinding of tools, dies and gauges as required.
  • Verify dimensions, alignments, and clearances of finished parts for conformance to specifications, using measuring instruments such as calipers, gauge blocks, micrometers, and dial indicators.
  • Study blueprints, sketches, models, or specifications to plan sequences of operations for fabricating tools, dies, or assemblies.
  • Able to recognize cosmetic non-conformances based on Company specifications such as; burrs, galling, cracked edges, slug marks, dimensional changes in production parts and initiate action to prevent non-conformance such as stopping the machine and notifying Supervisor.
  • Follow all 5S department procedures which include but are not limited to; keeping floors clean of oil and debris, returning tools to proper locations, organize part pans, and performs other housekeeping duties.
  • Attends all required job related training (internal and external).
  • All employees are responsible for complying with the rules and regulations set forth by Federal, Local, and State government, LISI Aerospace, and HSE Procedures.
  • All employees are responsible for attending all training provided and for adhering to all HSE procedures, policies, and plans, conforming to reporting requirements, and safe operating procedures at all times.
