About The Position

PTM is looking for an experienced Tool & Die Designer to join our engineering team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in designing progressive, transfer, draw, and four-slide tooling for high-volume manufacturing. This role is responsible for developing production tooling from concept through PPAP approval while collaborating with engineering, manufacturing, and customers to deliver high-quality, cost-effective tooling solutions.

Requirements

  • Experience designing progressive dies, transfer dies, draw dies, and four-slide tooling.
  • Strong proficiency with VISI CAD software.
  • PLEX ERP
  • Experience designing tooling for aluminum, stainless steel, HSLA, and similar materials.
  • Thorough understanding of sheet metal forming, stamping processes, die construction, GD&T, and manufacturing principles.
  • Ability to interpret customer drawings, CAD models, and engineering specifications.
  • Knowledge of PPAP requirements and tooling validation processes.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

  • Design production tooling to meet customer specifications and manufacturing requirements.
  • Develop detailed tool and die designs, including dimensions, tolerances, fastening methods, and manufacturing specifications.
  • Design progressive dies, transfer dies, draw dies, and four-slide tooling for high-volume production.
  • Perform feasibility studies and recommend optimal manufacturing processes, materials, and tooling concepts.
  • Create tooling layouts and strip developments using VISI CAD software.
  • Design tooling for aluminum, stainless steel, HSLA, and other advanced materials.
  • Collaborate with engineering and manufacturing teams to optimize designs for manufacturability and production efficiency.
  • Verify tooling performance through simulations, design reviews, and testing prior to production release.
  • Support tool build, tryout, debugging, and troubleshooting to achieve production readiness.
  • Manage tooling projects through all development stages, including prototype, tool build, validation, and PPAP approval.
  • Implement engineering changes and continuous improvements to enhance tool performance and product quality.
  • Provide technical support during production and resolve tooling-related issues.
  • Assist with tooling quotations by estimating design complexity, tooling requirements, and manufacturing costs.
