About The Position

To plan/design, from concept thru fabrication, tooling/fixtures/equipment necessary to support high volume/high mix production.

Requirements

  • Associate degree or equivalent education or equivalent military training; or equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
  • One to two or more years of experience tooling/fixtures/equipment
  • US Citizenship is required
  • Must be able to read, write and communicate effectively, and work with minimum supervision.
  • Proficient in electronic drafting software.
  • SolidWorks Professional certification in areas appropriate to fixture/tooling design.
  • Trained in use of geometric tolerancing.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze engineering drawings to ascertain needed tooling and manufacturing processes. Ensure that tool/fixture/equipment designs meet the Design for Manufacturability standards. Provide formal input to product design engineers of potential design changes that will make our products easier to assemble consistently.
  • Inspect machines and facilities where tools will be used.
  • Determine optimal clearances, speeds, temperature, and other pertinent conditions affecting final design requirements of tools.
  • Prepare tool/tool/equipment layouts for approval prior to final design and prepare tool drawings in accordance with the approved layout.
  • Ensure that appropriate new technology is incorporated in the tool/fixture design. Ensure that any models produced are suitable for additional electronic utilization (animations, simulations, etc.)
  • Determine material specifications to insure productive life of tools/fixtures.
  • Perform analysis and present alternative designs (including materials changes) to ensure that tradeoffs between design costs and production usefulness are optimized.
  • Revise tooling when required to accommodate production design changes.
  • Establish and monitor compliance of historical and accountability records of production tooling. Establish standards for future design as appropriate.
  • On the floor follow-up of installed tools/fixtures to ensure that designs are effective. Maintain records of changes with idea of improving the design process for future projects.
  • Interface with internal and external resources as needed including managing schedules and priorities for multiple projects simultaneously.
  • All other duties as assigned.
