The Tool Design Engineer will interpret blueprints, including fabrication, mechanical assembly, and CAD models, to develop tooling concepts. This role involves designing custom tools, jigs, and fixtures for various aerospace manufacturing processes such as assembly, sheet metal forming, machining, and inspection. The engineer will also create CAD models using reverse-engineering techniques and equipment, perform tolerance stack-ups and stress analysis, and collaborate with engineering to address production performance or tool life issues. Continuous improvement of tooling for cost-efficiency, durability, and ergonomic safety is expected, along with supporting tool fabrication, validation, and implementation on the production floor. Proficiency in CAD software for 2D and 3D modeling, along with maintaining documentation, is crucial. Reasonable accommodations may be provided for individuals with disabilities.
