About The Position

The Production Tooling Technician must have knowledge of the Core Production department; will be responsible for the assigned tasks in the production tooling area, including but not limited to: cleaning/polishing, tooling inspection, machine set-up and tear down tooling in production on the job site and will be responsible for layout and fabrication of all tooling of Core production.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED), or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Mechanical aptitude.
  • Use of hand and power tools.
  • General machine shop principles.
  • Ability to speak, read and interpret documents and blueprints, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to employees.
  • Regularly required to stand and walk and use hands to finger, handle and feel.
  • Frequently required to reach with hands and arms; climb and or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk and hear.
  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to 30 pounds and occasionally lift to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to start and stop pultrusion tooling production equipment.
  • Operate powered industrial equipment.
  • Operate software for tracking preventive maintenance.
  • Ability to read and interpret gauges and record measurements.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, SDS (Safety Data Sheets), operating and maintenance instructions, and any relevant manuals.
  • Ability to stand for an 8-10, with an occasional 12-hour shift.
  • Use of hands and arms to lift, handle, clean, install, and position materials and tools/machinery, and to otherwise manipulate things.
  • Working knowledge of hand and power tools to achieve tight tolerances and machined finishes crucial to composite lay up.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of all pultrusion tooling and calibration of same.
  • Good communication, numeric aptitude, attention to detail skills.
  • Knowledge of all Tooling area documents and paperwork including core production set-up sheets, testing request forms, and work orders.

Responsibilities

  • Perform safety inspections, procedures and regulations, scheduled maintenance, and equipment change-over (tear down and set-up).
  • Ensure strict adherence to corporate values in complying with all company environmental, safety and other laws and regulations.
  • Coordinate daily and outage-related work to support and maintain unit availability.
  • Check, re-check, and check again tooling inspection reports for compliance reliability.
  • Troubleshoot tooling equipment, document discrepancies, and write work orders.
  • Monitor and document after cleaning, inspecting Dies, Carbon bushing, and other tooling.
  • Notify a qualified individual of any discrepancies of tooling.
  • Observe and be attentive to machine and all tooling to detect and prevent possible malfunctions.
  • Recognize and alert supervisors of anything unusual.
  • Effectively execute shift change by preparing and cleaning all tooling, equipment and supplies to minimize down time.
  • Inform the incoming shift of any special instructions or changes.
  • Read and interpret gauges, record measurements, and document all information accurately.
  • Follow operating and maintenance instructions for tools/machinery, and utilize relevant manuals for adherence to standard operating procedures.
  • Maintain a safe work environment and thoroughly understand the Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for the proper handling of materials.
  • Operate and maintain calibration for Air gage (Western Gage Co) and Bore Scope.
  • Maintain inspection reports to track wear/usage of pultrusion dies and determine end of life of composite tooling.
  • Maintain, clean, refurbish, and in some cases, fabricate over 5,000 individual pieces in the Tooling department.
  • Instrumental in weekly/biweekly machine setups for production.
  • Video characterize and capture visual defects in Pultrusion dies up to a 48” cavity.
