The Tool Crib Assistant receives, stores, and issues fixtures, machine tools, and maintains records of tools issued and returned. This role involves preparing tools and tool holders from a tool sheet, locating lost or misplaced tools and equipment, and maintaining the tool crib in a clean, orderly, and well-maintained condition. The assistant assesses tools for defects and wear, visually or using a micrometer, and reports any damage or wear to the supervisor. They ensure tools and fixtures are kept in good condition, follow the nonconforming process when needed, and identify opportunities for continuous improvement of processes. The role also requires communicating concerns related to production, safety, and quality to the immediate supervisor and adhering to the FOD program. Handling tools and fixtures must be done in a way that prevents damage or compromise of integrity. In situations of lack of work or departmental assistance needs, the assistant may be asked to perform tasks such as cleaning, operating machinery, manual machining, or in-process inspection. Maintaining a positive attitude, punctuality, a clean work area, and willingness to work in a team are essential. The role also requires awareness of quality policies, procedures, objectives, and contributions to product conformance, safety, and ethics.
