About The Position

Infant and Toddler Teacher Job Description Position Definition: Understands the developmental principles of infants and toddlers and the importance of a primary caregiver relationship to foster affectionate relationships where the foundation for trust is formed. Creates a supportive experience where young children are cared for in an environment rich with sensory experiences, that is responsive to the child’s individual needs, and that supports/encourages self-expression.

Requirements

Must be 18 years or older.
Must possess a high school diploma, or equivalency certificate.
Minimum of (1) year of experience in a developmentally appropriate child-centered learning program for children birth to 3 years of age.
Required to obtain and maintain FIRST AID and CPR certification.
Must have a physical exam within the year prior to start date, which includes a negative Tuberculin Test.
A statement of Good Health will be required every (2) years from date of employment.
Required to continue teacher education/development as outlined in state licensing guidelines.
A working knowledge of center-based childcare for infants and toddlers, early childhood development, and State of Connecticut licensing policies.
Must possess strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.

Nice To Haves

A CDA, Associate’s Degree or at least (6) college credits in early childhood education, child psychology, sociology, family studies, or elementary education (or a closely related field) is preferred.

Relate in a positive and sensitive manner to children, their families, staff members and youth participating in various roles within the childcare center.
Work independently and model development appropriate practice.
Gain the confidence of parents and children maintaining the best interest of the children at all times.
Plan, organize and coordinate the delivery of a quality infant/toddler program.
Discuss programming, goals, and curriculum with parents.
Develop cooperative working relationships with coworkers and families.
