The San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD) is seeking TK-12 Day-to-Day Substitute Teachers for the 2026-2027 school year. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited undergraduate institution.
  • Certificate of Clearance (COC) - HR Sub Office will assist in obtaining if needed.
  • Clear CA Teaching Credential OR 30-Day Substitute Teaching Permit - HR Sub Office will assist in obtaining if needed.
  • Negative TB test administered within 60 days of hire.
  • Clearance of fingerprint background check.
  • Flexibility and willingness to work all SFUSD schools, particularly at High Potential Schools.

Responsibilities

  • Cover teacher absences and vacancies in the classroom using the substitute scheduling system, Red Rover.
  • Follow lesson plans to maintain and further student learning.
  • Plan, implement, monitor, and assess a classroom's instructional program under the direction of school administrators.
  • Execute the full schedule of the regular teacher, including classroom time, study halls, yard duty, and any special duties.
  • Implement assigned lesson plans and correct classroom assignments and homework as time permits.
  • Create and maintain classroom control and discipline to foster a safe and productive learning environment.
  • Create and maintain a climate of respect and fairness for all students.
  • Escalate serious discipline problems to school administrators.
  • Leave adequate notes for administrators regarding accomplishments, problems, resolutions, and future lesson plans.
  • Report to school 15-30 minutes before the scheduled start time and remain after the assignment to tidy up and return materials.
