About The Position

Provide tutorial services for students in grades K-5 within the district. This position is for the 2026-27 school year only and requires proper certification in the grade level and content area. The role involves ensuring student safety, tutoring in assigned subject areas, evaluating students using sound instructional practices, and effectively managing individual student behavior to maintain a good learning environment. The tutor will also prepare lesson plans, evaluate student subject levels, maintain accurate records, and provide guidance and counsel to students. Additionally, the position requires attending parent/teacher conferences, counseling with colleagues, students, and parents, distributing homework, and ensuring students are learning all subject material through regular testing and quizzing. The tutor will also make provisions for availability to students and parents outside of instruction hours, maintain and improve professional competence, and establish cooperative relationships with parents. The role includes assessing student accomplishments, providing progress reports, referring students suspected of learning disabilities for diagnosis, and assisting the administration in implementing procedures and rules. The tutor will develop classroom behavior rules, maintain order, notify parents of student progress, and follow the instructional program's scope and sequence. Safety precautions for students, equipment, materials, and facilities are essential. The tutor will demonstrate knowledge of subject matter, present clear explanations using various instructional techniques, act as a teacher, facilitator, and information source, teach new concepts, and facilitate different learning activities. Participation in building "teams" and organizing subject-specific programs are also part of the role. The position requires tact and diplomacy in public interactions, maintaining confidentiality, and interacting positively with staff, students, and parents. Attendance at meetings and in-services is required, along with performing other duties as assigned by the Building Principal.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from an accredited institution of higher learning
  • Proper certification in the grade level and content area required
  • Knowledge of academic area and teaching methodology

Responsibilities

  • Ensure safety of students

  • Refer students suspected of learning disabilities for diagnosis on a regular basis, seeking the assistance of district specialists as required
  • Assist the administration in implementing all procedures and rules governing student life and conduct, and develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure for the classroom, and maintain order in the classroom in a fair and just manner
  • Notify parents if student is not meeting classroom goals
  • Follow the scope and sequence of the instructional program as defined in the content standards which have been approved by the Board of Education
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities
  • Demonstrate knowledge of subject matter and present clear, complete, and accurate explanations utilizing a variety of instructional techniques and media suitable to the level of learners
  • Act as teacher, facilitator and information source in subject area specialty
  • Teach new concepts and facilitate different activities enabling students to learn in different ways
  • Participate on building "teams" when requested and agreed upon
  • Organize various subject-specific programs within assigned building, e.g., Right to Read Week
  • Make contacts with the public with tact and diplomacy
  • Maintain respect at all times for confidential information, e.g., home and discipline situations, medical background and family history
  • Interact in a positive manner with staff, students and parents
  • Promote good public relations by personal appearance, attitude and conversation
  • Attend meetings and in-services as required by Principal
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Building Principal
