About The Position

The Title Examiner I is responsible for accurately and promptly creating title commitment documents for all real estate transactions. Accuracy, thoroughness, and sound decision making are critical because quality of examining directly influences company liability. Attention to detail and organizational skills enable the position to complete the examination process in a timely manner.

Requirements

General understanding of title insurance, required
Demonstrated experience with maintaining the security of confidential information, required
Proficient with Microsoft 365, PDF or related software, required
High school diploma or GED, required
2 years related office experience, required
Driver’s license, required

Nice To Haves

Ability to comprehend legal descriptions and draw using a mapping program or by hand, preferred
Proficient in utilizing title plant search systems, preferred (I.E. TitlePoint, DataTrace)
Proficient with title industry software such as Resware or SoftPro Select, preferred
Associate’s degree or equivalent experience, preferred
Minimum of 2 years of title insurance abstracting, examination, or underwriting/risk experience, preferred
Title, real estate, banking, mortgage industry knowledge, preferred
Valid Title Producer’s License, as required by applicable state law, within 6 months of hire

Responsibilities

Conduct basic searches and examinations of property titles to determine legal status and identify any defects or encumbrances.
Review legal documents such as deeds, mortgages, liens, and judgments to ensure accuracy and compliance with regulations.
Prepare preliminary title reports and summaries, highlighting any issues or discrepancies.
Conduct research in public records to trace the history of property ownership and verify title information.
Ensure all title examinations comply with company policies, industry standards, and legal requirements.
Communicate with clients to provide updates and explanations regarding title findings.
Work closely with senior title examiners and other team members to facilitate smooth real estate transactions.
Stay up to date on industry trends and best practices to enhance the quality of title examinations.
Ability to work regular and extended hours as needed to support co-workers, and serve clients/customers
Demonstrate regular and predictable attendance
Maintain in-person attendance to process incoming and outgoing transactions in a timely manner
