The Tissue Technician I's primary responsibility is to assist histology with specimen processing in the clinical laboratory. This may include receiving specimens, ensuring accurate entry into the Laboratory Information System (LIS), and /or preparing samples for testing and analysis. Maintains flexibility regarding work schedule including section assignment. Schedule: Tue-Sat, 11:00 AM-7:30 PM

Requirements

  • High school diploma required
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to collaborate with peers
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office, data entry, and use of laboratory information systems
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and maintain accurate records
  • Ability to work with moderate supervision and exercise good judgment
  • Exposure to general office and laboratory environment conditions
  • Handling and disposing of hazardous non-hazardous laboratory materials
  • Repetitive movement of fingers, hands, arms and legs
  • Manual dexterity and visual acuity for handling and processing specimens
  • Sitting, walking, standing, bending, talking and hearing
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment

Nice To Haves

  • A four-year degree in life sciences preferred
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in a laboratory setting desirable

Responsibilities

  • Specimen reconciling, sample return, and ensuring quality throughout the pre-analytical processes
  • Processing samples according to multiple workflows and maintaining established turnaround times
  • Identifying specimen processing problems that may adversely affect the reporting of test results and immediately notify the supervisor
  • Completing other related administrative duties, including copying, filing and data entry
  • Maintaining supply inventory logs - materials and laboratory supplies
  • Ensuring the highest quality of internal/external customer service
  • Participating in projects, research, and validation activities as assigned
  • Performing all duties according to guidelines outlined within the quality systems
  • Complying with company policies, procedures, safety requirements and regulations
