About The Position

The Tissue Recovery Technical Trainer is responsible for the design, delivery, and oversight of training programs for tissue recovery personnel. This role focuses on developing technical proficiency through structured onboarding, hands-on instruction, and competency-based assessments. The trainer utilizes performance data and quality metrics to identify skill gaps, implement targeted remediation, and ensure consistent adherence to clinical, regulatory, and organizational standards in tissue recovery practices.

Requirements

  • Minimum of two years’ experience in tissue recovery and trained as a team leader
  • Demonstrated expertise in tissue recovery processes and surgical technique.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Effectively communicate both verbally and in writing when representing IDN.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Duties of the position require travel or onsite response to execute essential job functions required in the facilitation of the donation process.
  • Lift equipment and supplies weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Assist with physical lifting of donors.
  • Stand for long periods of time in an operating room and mortuary environment.
  • Use of sharp surgical instruments which may cause damage or injury if used incorrectly.
  • Travel to the office and donor hospitals throughout the State of Iowa at any given hour of the day or night.
  • Drive a vehicle under various conditions that may lead to visual and mental fatigue.
  • Express ideas verbally and convey detailed or important spoken information
  • Receive detailed information through oral and auditory communication
  • Must receive required vaccines based on outlined schedules to protect our employees, healthcare personnel, donors, recipients, and families we may come into contact. (e.g., Influenza obtained annually by December 1st.)

Nice To Haves

  • Degree in Biological Sciences or healthcare-related field preferred
  • CTBS certification preferred

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate comprehensive onboarding and ongoing technical training for tissue recovery personnel through classroom, simulation, and hands-on clinical instruction.
  • Conduct, document, and maintain initial and ongoing competency assessments to ensure staff meet established clinical and regulatory standards for tissue recovery.
  • Analyze recovery performance data, quality metrics, and audit findings to identify trends, skill gaps, and opportunities for targeted training interventions.
  • Develop and implement individualized and group remediation plans based on performance data, ensuring timely correction of identified deficiencies and sustained competency.
  • Maintain and continuously improve structured training programs, curricula, training materials, and competency validation tools to ensure standardization and effectiveness.
  • Ensure accurate and complete training records, competency documentation, and training files in compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards.
  • Provide real-time guidance and instruction during tissue recovery cases to reinforce best practices, surgical technique, and adherence to protocols.
  • Support ongoing education initiatives, including skills refreshers, updates to recovery practices, and integration of new techniques or regulatory requirements.
  • Partner with quality and operational teams to align training priorities with identified process gaps, adverse trends, and organizational goals.
  • Maintain clinical competency and participate in tissue recovery cases as needed to support training effectiveness and operational needs.
