About The Position

New England Donor Services (NEDS) is seeking a Tissue Recovery Specialist to join their professional surgical team. This role involves hands-on, paid training to aseptically remove bones, skin, veins, corneas, heart-for-valves, and additional tissues from deceased donors. Tissue donations are crucial for life-saving and life-enhancing procedures such as heart valve transplants for children, mastectomy surgeries for breast cancer survivors, and restoring sight to those with corneal blindness. Requirements

  • Associates degree or minimum 2 years professional experience as an EMT, Paramedic, ER Tech, OR Tech - hands on healthcare experience is a must!
  • Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and a safe driving record
  • Must be able to lift up to 75 lbs.
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to thrive in a complex, fast-paced environment
  • Ability to apply critical thinking skills by multi-tasking and applying Standard Operating Procedures during day-to-day work functions
  • Must be able to manage multiple systems and computer applications
  • Must have an intermediate understanding of medical terminology
  • Ability to adapt to variable working conditions
  • Must be vaccinated and boosted for COVID-19.

Nice To Haves

  • Candidates with EMT, Paramedic, ER Tech, OR Tech or Surgical Tech backgrounds with medical terminology and anatomy background strongly encouraged to apply!
  • Comfortable with long periods of driving and possible travel in a small aircraft.
  • Must live within a reasonable driving distance from the Waltham location.
  • Candidates will be required to travel by personal vehicle to meet the duties and responsibilities of this position.

Responsibilities

  • Aseptically remove bones, skin, veins, corneas, heart-for-valves, and additional tissues from deceased donors.
  • Develop technical skills in tissue recovery procedures.
  • Travel throughout New England in NEDS vehicles.
  • Maintain requirements of an "eligible driver" including being at least 21 years old, maintaining an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR), and required minimum personal automobile insurance.
  • Apply critical thinking skills by multi-tasking and applying Standard Operating Procedures during day-to-day work functions.
  • Manage multiple systems and computer applications.
