About The Position

A tire mechanic, or tire technician, is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of vehicle tires. This includes mounting and dismounting tires, repairing punctures, performing tire rotations and balancing, and inspecting tires for wear and damage.

Requirements

  • Attention to detail: A sharp eye for detail is essential for ensuring welds are strong and containers meet industry standards.
  • Physical stamina: The job is physically demanding and requires standing for long periods, bending, stooping, and lifting heavy parts and tools.
  • Mechanical aptitude: Strong general mechanical and problem-solving skills to diagnose and fix container issues.
  • OSHA safety certification may also be required.
  • Problem-solving skills: Excellent troubleshooting and analytical abilities to accurately diagnose mechanical issues.
  • Manual dexterity: Proficiency with a wide variety of hand tools and power tools.
  • Communication: Effective verbal and written communication skills to consult with team members and accurately document repairs.
  • Prolonged periods working on vehicles and equipment.
  • Must be physically able to access vehicles and equipment either by kneeling or lying on back.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds at a time.
  • Employee must be authorized to work in the United States.

Nice To Haves

  • Fluent English/ Bilingual a plus
  • Applicants need to be able to obtain a Ports ID and a TWIC card

Responsibilities

  • Safely remove old tires and install new ones on a vehicle's wheels.
  • Inspect tires for damage and perform repairs, such as patching punctures.
  • Perform tire rotations and balancing to ensure even wear and a smooth ride.
  • Examine all vehicle tires for proper inflation, tread depth, and any signs of damage or wear.
  • Advise customers on their tire needs, explain necessary repairs, and potentially assist with selecting new tires.
  • Keep the work area clean, organized, and stocked with necessary supplies.
  • Inspecting completed work to ensure it meets safety and quality standards.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations, using personal protective equipment (PPE) to minimize risk.
