Tire Builder- Production Operator
About The Position
The Tire Builder-Production Operator operates production equipment according to safety standards, standard operating procedures, in-process control standards, and other related standards to ensure product quality, quantity, and on-time delivery. The Tire Building Department has three sections, and candidates must be willing and able to learn and work in all three: changeover operations, belt-side building, and carcass-side building. In changeover operations, the operator changes over tire-building machines, stages and replaces material cassettes, measures materials, splices new material to existing material, and records measurements and material information. The work requires manual material handling, coordination with other operators, and attention to safety and quality procedures. In belt-side building, the operator prepares and applies belts to the belt drum, verifies material position, makes and secures splices, stages and loads material cassettes, and communicates changes to team members. The role includes walking to transport materials and constantly lifting CAP Tread during a 12-hour period. In carcass-side building, the operator assembles the inner liner, body plies, beads, and sidewalls into a tire carcass; applies textile fiber cables and rubber compounds; positions and secures beads; inspects components; operates the CC drum, handheld stitcher, and zipper stitcher; and documents abnormalities or defects. All work is performed on a manufacturing floor with machinery and moving parts, following safety protocols and production procedures.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to perform manual labor, including lifting and pushing heavy objects.
- Ability to lift, push, and/or pull 50 pounds or more.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and use manual dexterity for extended periods.
- Attention to detail and adherence to safety and quality standards.
- Effective communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and proficiency with hand tools and machinery.
- Knowledge of safety protocols and ability to adhere to them strictly.
- Willingness and ability to learn and work in all three tire-building sections.
- Ability to use required PPE.

Responsibilities
- Perform tire-building machine changeovers according to standard operating procedures.
- Ensure material ticket rack numbers match specifications and measure and verify material dimensions.
- Retrieve and stage full material cassettes, remove empty cassettes, load full cassettes onto guiding rollers, and push them into machines.
- Splice new material onto old material with a 30mm–50mm overlap, mark splices for visual verification, and keep components clean.
- Follow safety protocols, use required PPE, watch for pinch points and hazards, and implement STOP-CALL-WAIT when abnormalities occur.
- Record measurements on check sheets, scan and initial material tickets, and collaborate with the CC operator on documentation.
- Inform carcass and belt operators about splices and changes.
- Prepare and apply belts to the belt drum, verify belts are within laser lines, and splice belts butt to butt without cord overlap.
- Push the next-step button after each belt-side task.
- Splice BC material butt to butt, use a bevel stitcher to secure the splice, and ensure the BC is within laser lines and free of defects.
- Verify splices and material positions and communicate splices and changes to team members.
- Assemble the inner liner, body plies, beads, and sidewalls to form the tire carcass.
- Apply textile fiber cables and rubber compounds to create carcass plies, and position and secure beads against the rim.
- Inspect carcass components for structural integrity and compliance with specifications; verify bead splice positions and check for visual defects.
- Operate the CC drum, handheld stitcher, and zipper stitcher.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, follow SOPs, and maintain cycle times for each step.
- Document and report abnormalities or defects in production.
- Stand and walk for extended periods and transport materials to the Tire Building Machine.
