About The Position

The Welding Instructor plays a key role in preparing students for successful careers in the skilled trades by delivering engaging, hands-on instruction in a safe and supportive learning environment. Working within a student-centred and culturally respectful framework, this position provides practical training, mentorship, and industry-relevant knowledge that helps students develop technical skills, confidence and professionalism needed for employment. The instructor works collaboratively with students, staff and industry partners to support student success and ensure graduates are workforce-ready.

Requirements

  • Journeyman Certification in Welding or an equivalent combination of education, training and industry experience.
  • Valid CWB Welding Supervision certification.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of recent industry experience in TIG welding and fabrication.
  • Experience delivering hands-on technical or trades training, preferably in an adult education environment.
  • Experience developing lesson plans, evaluating student performance and supporting diverse learning needs.
  • Experience maintaining a safe welding shop and promoting Workplace Safety & Health standards.
  • Experience working with Indigenous students or community support programs.
  • Strong knowledge of TIG welding, fabrication, blueprint reading, trade math and welding safety practices.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and instructional skills.
  • Ability to motivate, mentor and support adult learners from diverse backgrounds.
  • Strong organization, time-management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Understanding of trauma-informed, student-centred, and culturally responsive approaches to education.
  • Proficient in MS Office and general computer applications.
  • Ability to lift up to 25lbs.
  • Ability to travel in the community as required.
  • NETES requires a clear and satisfactory Criminal Record Check before employment begins. All checks must be dated within three (3) months of the start date.

Nice To Haves

  • Adult Education Instructor Certification (or willingness to obtain)
  • Certification or training in Crisis Intervention, Mental Health First Aid, ASIST, or related support training is considered an asset.
  • Experience building partnerships with employers, community organizations, or industry stakeholders is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous cultures and communities considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver classroom, shop and hands-on instruction in TIG (GTAW), oxy-fuel welding, cutting, gouging, fabrication and repair of tubular structures, blueprint reading and trade-related math.
  • Prepare lesson plans, instructional materials, demonstrations and practical learning activities aligned with program outcomes.
  • Assess student performance, provide constructive feedback, and implement strategies to support student success.
  • Mentor students in developing technical skills, workplace safety practices and industry professionalism.
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and productive shop environment in accordance with Workplace Safety & Health regulations.
  • Coordinate and supervise practicum and work placement opportunities with industry partners.
  • Maintain accurate student records, attendance, evaluations, and program documentation.
  • Review and update curriculum, instructional materials and program resources to meet current industry standards.
  • Ensure welding equipment, tools, and shop facilities are properly maintained and support effective program delivery.
  • Build and maintain relationships with employers, industry partners and apprenticeship stakeholders.
  • Participate in staff meetings, professional development, recruitment, and community engagement activities.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to support continuous improvements of the Welding program and student outcomes.
