About The Position

This role involves ensuring the quality and proper handling of wood products, including sorting, grading, and inventory management. The Tie Unloader Inspector will operate machinery, maintain equipment, and work with customers and inspectors to meet order requirements. Safety and compliance with all plant and environmental regulations are paramount.

Requirements

  • Pass preemployment medical screening.
  • Medically cleared to wear required respiratory protection.
  • Qualitatively or quantitatively demonstrates a face to facepiece seal.
  • Qualified as a powered industrial equipment operator.
  • Authorized as an permit confined space attendant and/or entrant.
  • Trained as authorized personnel and/or affected personnel for lockout/tagout.
  • Demonstrates acceptable retention level for required training elements.
  • Trained to handle hazardous waste.
  • Able to operate cut-off saw and electric and hydraulic equipment safely and efficiently.

Responsibilities

  • Complies with all plant administrative rules, operating procedures, and safety rules.
  • Operates tie machine to sort and grade ties.
  • Oversees routine maintenance and reports additional needs to the Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Verifies counts and car/truck load numbers.
  • Prepares tie-grading reports for plant inventory purposes.
  • Compiles inventory information on truck and rail ties.
  • Compiles monthly information on the plant customer inventory.
  • Checks quality and amount of arriving wood products.
  • Ensures separation, relocation, or storage of material such as cross, switch, or other forest products in accordance with size or grade.
  • Inspects and classifies forest products for size, grade quality, and quantity in accordance with standard specifications.
  • Works with customers and inspectors to ensure orders are processed correctly and according to customer requirements.
  • Assists commercial inspectors and ensures reclassification of rejected material.
  • Assists in physical inventories.
  • Directs proper loading and unloading of rail cars and other customer vehicles, including selection and quality of material being loaded, and ensures compliance with standard security and safety specifications for cars and vehicles.
  • Prepares and submits production schedules and reports, including time sheets, personal data, shipping tickets, tally reports, supply requirements, and results of physical inventories.
  • Ensures all employees wear proper PPE.
  • May be required to conduct employee safety meetings.
  • Performs other duties as required.
  • Directs and ensures completion of required housekeeping activities.
  • Performs all required SH&E responsibilities.
  • Complies with all SH&E regulations and corporate and plant SH&E policies and procedures.
  • Promptly and properly reports all incidents, injuries, damages, spills, and/or releases.
  • Promptly reports and, if possible, corrects all unsafe acts and/or conditions.
  • Wears personal protective equipment (PPE) required by applicable PPE hazard assessments.
  • Completes all SH&E inspections assigned by the SH&E committee.
  • Ensures treated wood products are stored elevated off the ground to prevent unnecessary contact with rainwater or snowmelt.
  • Monitors hydraulic equipment for oil leaks.
  • Works safely with and around hazardous materials/hazardous waste and ensures all employees do so.
  • Participates in and monitors employee development.
