About The Position

The Thrift Retail Associate is responsible for supporting the day-to-day front-end operations of the St. Vincent Center Thrift Store by providing excellent customer service, maintaining a clean and organized sales floor, and assisting with merchandising and stocking activities. This role helps create a welcoming and positive shopping experience while supporting the mission of Catholic Charities to bring hope to life. The Retail Associate works collaboratively with staff, volunteers, and community workers to maintain efficient store operations and support daily sales floor goals. This position demonstrates professionalism, accountability, and respectful communication while contributing to a healthy and team-oriented work environment.

Requirements

  • Standing, walking, bending, moving, lifting or assisting with lifting 50 pounds on a regular basis
  • Performing other work requiring physical exertion, talking, and hearing on a regular basis
  • Work is performed in a fast-paced retail environment with moderate noise levels
  • High school diploma or GED preferred; or one year of relevant experience in retail, thrift, customer service, or related field accepted in lieu of education
  • Customer service or retail experience preferred
  • Experience in a thrift store or nonprofit environment preferred
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with staff, volunteers, and community worker
  • Ability to follow direction and complete assigned tasks efficiently
  • Ability to maintain organization and work in a fast-paced retail environment
  • Basic math and cash handling skills
  • Basic proficiency with workplace technology and point of sale systems preferred
  • Valid driver’s license and minimum liability insurance for WA State preferred
  • Must be deemed insurable as determined by Catholic Charities liability insurance provider
  • Being cleared by criminal background check and fingerprinting when required

Responsibilities

  • Greet customers in a friendly, professional, and respectful manner
  • Provide excellent customer service while assisting with purchases, questions, and store needs
  • Operate the point of sale (POS) system and accurately process cash and non-cash transactions
  • Assist with opening and closing procedures as assigned
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe sales floor environment
  • Restock merchandise and assist with floor merchandising to support daily stocking goals and inventory flow
  • Monitor fitting rooms, displays, and sales floor areas to maintain store appearance and organization
  • Assist customers with loading purchases when needed
  • Support a welcoming retail environment that reflects the mission and values of Catholic Charities
  • Work collaboratively with supervisors, coworkers, volunteers, and community workers
  • Communicate respectfully and effectively with staff and customers using clear verbal communication
  • Follow directions from supervisors and complete assigned tasks in a timely manner
  • Contribute to a healthy and respectful team environment
  • Demonstrate accountability, professionalism, and reliability in daily responsibilities
  • Assist with stocking, rotating, and organizing merchandise throughout the sales floor
  • Help maintain adequate inventory levels and organized product displays
  • Support daily operational goals and productivity expectations
  • Assist with donation intake or other store functions when additional support is needed
  • Follow agency policies, safety procedures, and confidentiality expectations
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Represent Catholic Charities in a professional and mission-centered manner
  • Participate in trainings and staff meetings as assigned
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the success of St. Vincent Center
