Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking a Thread Support Staff (level 5) Systems Engineer (TSSSE) to join the Sentinel Systems Engineering team located in Roy, UT. The TSSSE will support the On-Target Effectiveness (OTE) System Capability Thread for the Sentinel Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) program. This senior-engineer position is highly visible and will work directly with the Air Force on the development, production, and deployment of Sentinel ground- and airborne launch-control systems, launch facilities, launch control centers, and associated infrastructure. The incumbent will hold delegated authority for the On-Target Effectiveness thread. The OTE thread focuses on the system-level range, payload, and accuracy capabilities of the Sentinel system. The role offers a clear path to senior technical leadership.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) with 12 years of experience; or master’s degree with 10 years of experience; or PhD with 8 years of experience
  • Must be a US Citizen with an active DoD Secret Clearance, at time of application, current and within scope, with an investigation date within the last 6 years.
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Top Secret Clearance and Special Access Program (SAP) approval within a reasonable period, as determined by the company to meet its business needs.
  • 4 years of experience with ICBM programs (MMIII or Sentinel) or complex aerospace/defense systems.
  • 3 years of experience leading teams in a collaborative environment.
  • 2 years of experience creating, updating, and maintaining system-performance documentation.

Nice To Haves

  • Active U.S. Department of Defense Top Secret clearance (or the ability to obtain it) with SAP approval capability.
  • Experience on large-scale, complex system development across multiple program phases: preliminary design, detailed design, integration & test, verification & sell-off, and transition to production.
  • Proficiency with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools, practices, and methods.
  • Broad knowledge of complex engineering systems, including standards, configuration management, material review boards, process control, tooling, facilities, and software.
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills, demonstrated through high-value customer presentations and the ability to juggle multiple projects with competing priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a subject-matter expert and technical lead for the OTE thread, possessing end-to-end knowledge of the Sentinel program.
  • Execute special projects as required for assigned threads.
  • Act as the primary delegate of authority for the thread, overseeing all related systems-engineering products and deliverables, including:
  • Partner with program SEIT leadership and the Office of Chief Engineering (OCE) to develop a high-quality technical baseline.
  • Brief program leadership, customers, and stakeholders at program and technical reviews.
  • Establish and facilitate working-group/coordination sessions to ensure horizontal and vertical thread integration.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships across the program, customer, and stakeholder communities.
  • Mentor junior staff through formal and informal knowledge-transfer activities.
  • Define and allocate requirements down to the lowest component level.
  • Produce architecture and interface definitions.
  • Develop functional flows and CONOPS scenarios.
  • Allocate performance budgets, conduct analysis, and manage margins.
  • Conduct trade studies.
  • Plan verification activities, coordinating required and expected verification products to the appropriate level of detail.
  • Execute verification and validation, author requirement-verification reports, and coordinate with customers.
  • Ensure solution-definition and design artifacts deliver a compliant realization of the thread capability.
  • Develop integration-test plans and procedures.
  • Identify risks and opportunities and create execution plans to address them.
  • Report and manage Technical Performance Measures (TPMs).
