About The Position

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in subrogation, claims adjusting, or a related field within the property and casualty insurance industry.
  • In-depth knowledge of insurance policies, subrogation principles, and legal concepts related to property and casualty claims.
  • Strong analytical and investigative skills, with the ability to assess liability and recovery potential.
  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proficiency in claims management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to manage a high volume of cases with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Adjusters license required.

Responsibilities

  • Review and analyze claims to establish liability and review incoming subrogation demands from adverse carriers, assessing damages to rule out excess.
  • Investigate incidents by reviewing accident reports, interviewing witnesses, gathering physical evidence, and obtaining police reports and repair estimates to establish liability and damages.
  • Gather and organize all necessary documentation (contracts, invoices, photos, legal documents) to support subrogation claims, ensuring evidence is preserved and accurately recorded.
  • Clearly communicate the basis for demands, outlining incurred damages and the rationale for liability.
  • Engage in negotiations with adverse adjusters, third-party insurers, and attorneys to reach favorable settlements, utilizing knowledge of liability law and negotiation tactics.
  • Monitor claims closely for litigation and communicate with the insured when settlements cannot be achieved.
  • Keep detailed, up-to-date, and organized records of all subrogation activities, including communications, negotiation efforts, and payments.
  • Track the status of each subrogation file, ensuring timely follow-up and resolution, and regularly update internal systems with progress notes and settlement outcomes.
  • Provide regular updates and reports to management on subrogation claim status, settlements, challenges, and potential process improvements.
  • Collaborate with claims adjusters, underwriters, and legal teams to gather information, develop recovery strategies, and support the subrogation process.
  • Maintain effective communication with external stakeholders (insurers, attorneys, claimants) in a professional and clear manner.
  • Ensure all subrogation activities comply with applicable laws, regulations, and company policies, staying informed of legislative changes and industry standards.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of best practices for claims handling and settlements, identifying opportunities for process improvements.
  • Work towards meeting or exceeding individual and team settlement goals.
  • Regularly review subrogation performance metrics and outcomes to identify areas for improvement and participate in training opportunities.
  • Participate in special projects or initiatives as assigned by management, such as process improvement efforts or system upgrades.
  • Assist other departments as needed, providing expertise in subrogation.
