The Third Officer is responsible for ensuring compliance with the Company’s MS requirements, maintaining a navigation watch when the vessel is at sea or as delegated by the Master. This role also involves the maintenance and upkeep of deck and engine room equipment, life-saving, fire-fighting, and safety equipment, ensuring all safety equipment is positioned according to the ship-approved Safety Plan. The Third Officer will also be responsible for maintaining lifeboats and associated equipment, including life rafts, to the Company’s standard, noting and acting upon expiry and renewal dates, and ensuring fire extinguishers are maintained, tested, and kept charged. Discharged fire extinguishers will be recharged promptly. Additionally, the Third Officer will update Muster Lists, Station Bills, and individuals’ Station Bills / Bunk Cards as instructed by the Master, and assist the 2nd Officer with chart and publication corrections as designated. The Third Officer shall cooperate with the Master in maintaining a safe environment, free from health risks, in accordance with the Company’s Health Safety, Quality, and Environmental policies. A working knowledge of the Company’s VRP, SMPEP, Waste Management guidelines, Ballast Water Management Plan, and Vessel Security Plan is also required.
