About The Position

The Catholic school elementary teacher fulfills the mission of James L. Collins Catholic School by planning, guiding, and evaluating the learning process of the students for whom the teacher is responsible within the framework of the school’s philosophy and utilizing the approved curriculum. The Teacher ensures that a Catholic learning environment is provided to meet the needs of all students with appropriate learning activities designed to maximize student competencies and skills for intellectual, social-emotional, physical and spiritual development toward a successful future. The Teacher has decision making responsibilities within the scope of the position in consultation with the Principal and in keeping with school, diocesan, and Texas College of Catholic Bishops Education Department (TCCBED) policies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in subject taught or related field from an accredited American university
  • Hold & maintain a current teaching certificate for applicable grade level
  • Must meet the minimum requirements for teaching as set forth by the Diocese of Dallas and TCCB ED
  • In a self-contained classroom, have math knowledge appropriate to the grade level of students

Responsibilities

  • Act as a witness to Gospel values by Modeling the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church, reinforcing Catholic identity, and promoting the JLCCS Mission and Philosophy
  • Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with all faculty and staff members as well as school and diocesan administration to promote positive relationships with students and parents
  • Participate in required training, faculty meetings, and professional development; and seek continual professional development opportunities in order to maintain best practices
  • Support and Abide by the Code of Conduct and all policies and procedures of the school and diocese as outlined in the Catholic Schools Office Handbook of Policies and Procedures for Elementary and Secondary Schools; Texas College of Catholic Bishops - Education Department (TCCB ED) Guide to Quality and Effectiveness, JLCCS Faculty & Staff Handbook, and Family Handbook, as applicable
  • Cultivate a spirit of consideration, courtesy, and gratitude
  • Communicate effectively in both written and verbal form within the school community between school administrators, faculty, staff, parents, students, and community members
  • Be punctual, present and attentive at all duties, and always demonstrate professional responsibility in enforcing diocesan and school policies and regulations
  • Perform all other duties and special projects as assigned by the school administration with a positive Christian spirit
  • Plan for instruction with logically sequenced objectives based on diocesan standards and the adopted CSO curriculum and submitted according to school policy
  • Develop and use effective methods of evaluation (both formal and informal, formative and summative) that are directly related to curriculum objectives and to concepts and skills taught - consistently and effectively evaluate student progress
  • Collaborate with peers to enhance the work environment and support lesson planning that demonstrates innovation with curriculum, actively engages students, and includes differentiated academic instruction
  • Maintain current and accurate records (curriculum maps, unit maps, lesson plans, grades) according to school policies
  • Establish a consistent disciplinary approach which promotes self-direction and positive self-image; set high standards for student behavior and manage inappropriate behavior effectively
  • Use relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction, and exhibit technology skills necessary to provide both synchronous and asynchronous instruction according to the expectations of the school administration
  • Communicate necessary information regularly to students, parents and colleagues regarding student progress and student needs, both academic and behavioral
  • Full time homeroom teachers will sponsor/coach a student club or academic competition
  • Initiate or develop other programs relative to the job description, including providing additional learning support to students as needed such as before/after school tutoring
  • Meet annual faculty/staff development guidelines as set forth by the Diocese and school administration
