About The Position

The ThinkBIG Scholarship Program is a paid, two-year educational and hands-on training pathway offered by Thompson Tractor in partnership with South Georgia Technical College (SGTC). This program is designed to prepare participants for a full-time technician career, starting at the Panama City branch. Participants will earn an Associate Degree in Heavy Equipment Dealers Service Technology while gaining practical experience through paid internships, Caterpillar-specific training, and advanced diagnostics on heavy equipment. The program focuses on heavy equipment engines, marine propulsion systems, and power generator repair.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required at the start of the program.
  • Possess a valid driver's license and maintain a good driving record.
  • Ability to pass a drug screen, physical, and background check.
  • Meet SGTC and Thompson Tractor admission standards.
  • Achieve qualifying ACT, SAT, COMPASS, or ACCUPLACER scores.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in paid, rotating 8-week internships.
  • Attend 8-week classroom and lab sessions at SGTC.
  • Undergo Caterpillar-specific technical training.
  • Gain experience in heavy equipment engines, marine propulsion systems, and power generator repair.
  • Perform advanced diagnostics on heavy equipment.
