About The Position

The Systems Engineering team provides Wind Turbine system expertise while leading development of new products, turbine RTS activities, and strategic projects. The team owns system level trade-off decisions and continuous improvement in product development processes for the Wind product portfolio. As a Thermal Systems Engineer, you will lead the thermal design of one or more New Product Introduction (NPI) programs from initiation through to validation. Sometimes this will be done in parallel with separate programs in separate phases. These will support the MWC Platform overall objectives to create world-class wind turbine products.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering
  • 2+ years of experience in Engineering/Technology
  • Willingness for travel up to 10% of the time

  • Experience working on wind turbine system-related projects
  • Ability to break-down complex issues, determine possible courses of action, and enable effective decision making
  • System or product-level mindset
  • Knowledge of heat transfer, thermodynamics, and fluid dynamics principles
  • Field issues, testing and/or validation experience, data analysis skills
  • Requirements definition, decomposition, and/or translation experience
  • Effective communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills

Responsibilities

  • Executes 1D thermal system modeling for a range of wind turbine configurations and operational conditions
  • Informs system-level architecture trade studies with thermal analysis
  • Evaluates thermal performance data to offer potential improvements to the wind turbine design
  • Supports thermal system modeling for component design teams upon request or need
  • Responsible for validation plans on test units
  • Defines and delivers system capability requirements across a range of meteorological, grid, environmental, and operational boundary conditions
  • Influences strategy on constraint-based controls and monitoring for thermal protection
  • Supports studies to maximize customer value through higher output, efficiency, and corresponding impact to wind turbine systems and components
