About The Position

Exponent is seeking an Associate/Engineer for their Thermal Sciences Practice in Philadelphia, PA. This role involves providing technical expertise and guidance to clients, working within a team to analyze failures and support designs for complex problems related to fluid flow, heat transfer, mass transport, combustion, and thermodynamics. Projects will cover a wide range of industries including oil & gas, power generation and distribution, automotive, consumer products, medical devices, and battery systems. Key duties include planning and executing experimental test programs, conducting fieldwork and inspections, preparing proposals and technical reports, presenting to clients, and developing new business. Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or Chemical Engineering
  • Strong technical background in heat transfer, fluid mechanics, combustion, and thermodynamics
  • Hands-on experience in managing and executing experimental programs, including troubleshooting experimental test setups
  • Outstanding verbal and written communications skills
  • A desire and the flexibility to tackle a wide variety of problems within and outside your direct area of expertise
  • A desire and ability to market your technical knowledge to external clients
  • Domestic travel is likely required

Responsibilities

  • Applying technical knowledge to investigate failures of mechanical and chemical systems
  • Designing and constructing test apparatuses
  • Thermal design analysis
  • Heat transfer, fluid mechanics, and thermodynamics analysis
  • Conducting field work, such as off-site testing or attending evidence inspections
  • Reviewing and summarizing background information pertaining to failure events
  • Writing reports, preparing presentations, and presenting results to the client
  • Identifying and marketing to internal and external clients
