Thermal Engineer (Thermal Desktop)

Columbus Technologies and Services Inc•Pasadena, CA
•$45 - $60•Onsite

About The Position

The Thermal Engineer will perform thermal design and analysis for space-based technology demonstrations. The work includes closed-form analytical and computational analyses, and hardware and control-system designs that maintain hardware temperatures within safe operating ranges using radiation, conduction, convection, and single- or two-phase heat-transfer methods. The engineer will support system thermal-model development and thermal-submodel integration, assist with thermal-control design studies, and support milestone reviews. This is an onsite position at NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California. It is a 14-month W-2 contract with potential for extension or conversion, a 9/80 work schedule, and full benefits. Customer- and contract-specific training will be provided. Employment is contingent on successfully passing a background check and drug screen; U.S. citizenship is required. The stated U.S. base pay range is $45–$60 per hour, plus benefits.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline and at least 4 years of experience; or a master's degree and at least 2 years of experience; or a Ph.D. in a related technical discipline.
  • Background in spacecraft thermal-control engineering in Earth-orbit environments.
  • Working knowledge of orbital mechanics and space thermal environments.
  • Experience with geometric and thermal mathematical modeling using Thermal Desktop.

Nice To Haves

  • Active Top Secret (TS) clearance with Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) access.
  • Experience using TD Direct, Domain Tags, and Xrefs in Thermal Desktop.
  • Integrated modeling experience for structural-thermal-optical performance (STOP) analysis for precision optical systems.
  • Experience with active and passive cryogenic cooling of remote-sensing hardware for space applications.

Responsibilities

  • Perform thermal design and analysis of space-based technology demonstrations using closed-form analytical and computational methods.
  • Design hardware and control systems to keep hardware temperatures within safe operating ranges using radiation, conduction, convection, and single- or two-phase heat transfer.
  • Support system thermal-model development and thermal-submodel integration.
  • Assist in implementing and assessing thermal-control design studies.
  • Support milestone reviews.

Benefits

  • Full benefits
