The Thermal Engineer is responsible for all preliminary Engineering efforts from Customer RFQ through to product sale. This position performs critical thermal and mechanical functions of designing an air cooler, supports company’s estimating functions, and the corresponding customer and company interactions to successfully sell the product with minimized business risk. Thermal Design Responsibilities Include: Using available thermal rating programs, thermally designing and sizing air cooled heat exchangers capable of meeting the customer’s process conditions and enabling Cust-O-Fab to offer thermal and mechanical guarantees with assurance. Verifying customer proposed designs and offering optimized designs (examples reduced fabrication or end user costs) when possible. Communicating with applicable customer or end user person or group to gather additionally applicable data when and as required. Mechanical Design Responsibilities Include: Reviewing customer RFQ packages to ensure the quotation and ultimate project scope falls within Cust-O-Fab’s capabilities. Reviewing and noting customer required specifications that may increase fabrication/testing time or cost. Negotiating alternate solutions with Customer also a part of this responsibility. Performing ASME code related calculations to determine accurate estimates for applicable pressure vessel components such as tubes and headers. Working with Engineering and Shop Management, when necessary, to verify potential design/fabrication issues and/or opportunities.
