Check us out on LinkedIn: Medtronic CST In this exciting Therapy and Technology leadership role, you will lead product, platform, and core technology roadmap planning, forecasting, and portfolio alignment in support of the business AOP and long-term strategic objectives. You will provide technical leadership and strategic input for proposals, investment decisions, trade-off analyses, portfolio prioritization, and technology budget planning. In addition, you will synthesize insights from KOLs and clinical experts across therapies to help shape product development and portfolio strategy, while serving as the technical voice of the business. The role also drives research and technology scouting across procedures, therapies, and emerging technologies to identify and evaluate organic and inorganic partnership opportunities that support innovation and long-term growth.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Technology or Technical discipline with minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, OR Advanced degree in Engineering Technology or Technical discipline with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.

  • Extensive R&D experience with high-speed surgical drill systems, including integration with enabling technologies such as robotics and navigation platforms.
  • Strong systems engineering background with experience leading complex technical programs, functions, and cross-site initiatives throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Broad knowledge of hardware, software, and firmware development lifecycles and their integration within medical device systems.
  • Experience conducting and supporting preclinical and translational research activities, including cadaveric and animal laboratory studies, in compliance with applicable ethical, regulatory, and institutional standards.
  • Demonstrated success in intellectual property development, including invention disclosures, patent filings, and collaboration with legal and cross-functional teams on IP strategy.
  • Deep understanding of cranial and spinal therapy areas, including clinical practice, scientific foundations, market dynamics, regulatory considerations, and competitive landscapes.
  • Proven ability to translate strategic vision into actionable implementation plans and drive execution in complex, matrixed, and multi-cultural organizations.
  • Strong executive presence with exceptional communication, presentation, negotiation, conflict resolution, and relationship-building skills across physicians, patients, hospital administrators, sales leadership, and senior management.
  • Data-driven and process-oriented decision maker with strong analytical and strategic thinking capabilities.
  • Demonstrated success in people leadership, project management, and cross-functional coordination across matrixed organizations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to develop clear strategies, documentation, and executive-level presentations.

Responsibilities

  • Provides engineering support for new product development, product enhancements, process design, process optimization, and performance evaluation initiatives.
  • Develops and tests prototypes based on design specifications, establishes manufacturing and assembly processes, and drives process optimization efforts.
  • Establishes realistic timelines for critical project activities, communicates milestones to the project team leader, and updates project schedules as needed.
  • Proactively identifies and communicates potential resource constraints, availability issues, or competing priorities to minimize project schedule impacts.
  • Prepares and provides technical documentation, including test reports, drawings, and supporting materials required for regulatory submissions such as 510(k)s, PMAs, and international technical files.
  • Authors technical justifications supporting product design decisions, process selections, and proposed modifications.
  • Analyzes technical data, monitors industry and competitive trends, and shares relevant findings with appropriate stakeholders.
  • Delivers technical training to Laboratory and Production personnel and provides process and systems training to cross-functional teams as needed.
  • Identifies, evaluates, and coordinates with process, equipment, and laboratory service subcontractors to assess capabilities and recommend solutions to project leadership.
  • Recognizes safety concerns within the work environment and recommends corrective actions and continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Conducts reviews of technical literature and research to support project assignments and engineering activities.
  • Performs additional responsibilities and duties as assigned.
