About The Position

The Therapy Assistant will work under the supervision of assigned therapists to ensure coordinated delivery of rehabilitation services within an interdisciplinary, family-centered environment. Assistants will be responsible for: implementing therapy programs, completing other tasks as assigned by the therapists, providing training to children, youth and their parents, and ensuring documentation is consistent with agency standards.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary education required. Rehabilitation Assistant Program graduate preferred or post graduate diploma in the health human services sector.
  • 2 years related work experience within a pediatric/health care setting with children and youth with special needs an asset
  • Working knowledge of community resources and supports within the Districts of Nipissing, Muskoka and Parry Sound
  • Ability to work within an interdisciplinary team environment under the guidance and/or direction of assigned therapists
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills/Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Valid Ontario driver’s license, proof of insurance and reliable vehicle
  • Computer competency and adaptable in the use of computer software for the purpose of documentation, programming and communication.
  • Proof of COVID Vaccinations as required by the sector

  • Bilingual (English/French) is an asset

Responsibilities

  • Seeks clinical direction within the discipline’s scope of practice from the assigned therapist (OT/PT/TR).
  • Assists therapists by carrying out one-to-one or group activities with children/youth. These activities could include: exercise and mobility programs, rehabilitation therapy, daily living activities and programming.
  • Provides education and assistance to children/youth/families in the proper and safe utilization of assistive devices and equipment.
  • Documents client-related activities and workload practices according to Children’s Treatment Centre standards and the therapist’s professional college.
  • Maintains client confidentiality and privacy.
  • Reports observations made during intervention to the therapist.
  • Pursues on-going professional development and growth.
  • This individual may also be assigned to work directly with a Rehabilitation Therapists and Teacher in the Transition to School Program.
  • Other duties as assigned.
