About The Position

The Therapist is responsible for providing individual, family, collateral, and individual adult psychotherapy to services to clients in the FSPW program. The Therapist works closely with the county and community partners, including providing consultation and collaboration to Child and Family Teams to achieve client’s progress and treatment plans.

Requirements

Must be able to read, write, speak and understand the English language.
Must be able to function independently and be able to seek guidance when necessary to assist in working with the children and families.
Knowledge of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM IV).
Good knowledge of a variety of therapeutic interventions and models.
Knowledge of child/adolescent development.
Knowledge of child and vulnerable adult abuse issues.
Knowledge of laws and ethical standards of the profession.
Knowledge of substance abuse treatment.
Knowledge of team, family, and group dynamics.
Knowledge of anger management and coping skills.
Basic knowledge of psychotropic medications.
Knowledge of Microsoft Word.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Strong organizational and time management skills
Skill to maintain a professional, confidential work environment.
Ability to manage multiple tasks at one time in an efficient manner.
Excellent problem-solving skills.
Skill to accurately diagnose and assess clients.
Ability to relate to children and families in a positive manner.

Driving is an essential function of this job, and as such, employees in this position will be required to furnish own vehicle to be used in the course of employment.
A valid driver’s license and minimum insurance coverage is required.
Must be at least 21 years of age.
The licensed Therapist must possess a Master’s Degree from an accredited school of Social Work, Psychology, Counseling or Marriage and Family Therapy.
Licensed Therapists must possess a license issued by the California BBS as an LMFT, LCSW or LPCC.
Unlicensed Therapists must possess a Master’s Degree from an accredited school of Social Work, Psychology, Counseling or Marriage and Family Therapy.
Unlicensed Therapists must also be registered by the California BBS as an ASW, AMFT or APCC.
Must receive LMFT, LCSW or LPCC license within six years of initial registration with the California BBS as an intern to meet Sacramento County contract requirements.

Responsibilities

Schedule and coordinate therapy sessions.
Assemble necessary materials for therapy sessions.
Meet with clients for individual and/or family therapy sessions.
Assess clients’ needs and level of functioning.
Provide crisis counseling to children/families, as necessary.
Inform agency staff or caregivers of critical issues identified during therapy sessions.
Attend Child and Family Team meetings including providing consultation as well as advocacy for clients.
Utilize best and/or promising practices for treatment whenever possible.
Communicate with County Social Worker on issues concerning clients.
Research new materials, approaches, etc. as well as engage in trainings of best, evidence-based, and promising practices.
Ensure collaboration with any other service provided to youth, including after-care as needed.
Write progress notes for all services within deadline requirements.
Complete appropriate County mental health (EPSDT) paperwork, including but not limited to, initial and annual authorizations as required.
Participate in internal and external utilization review as assigned.
Complete UR documentation in relation to this assignment.
Periodically review charts for new and/or relevant information concerning clients.
Coordinate the completion of mental health performance outcomes.
Assist Family Facilitator with treatment planning when needed.
Attend meetings and provide consultation when needed.
Serve as a consultant to Clinical Program Manager, psychiatrist, county social workers, and other staff.
Prepare and provide staff training.
Attend weekly supervision meetings with therapy supervisor if unlicensed, to comply with California Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS) licensing requirements.
Licensed Therapists who have met the California BBS requirements to provide supervision, may provide weekly supervision for unlicensed clinicians so they may obtain licensing hours, as assigned by the Clinical Program Manager.
In consultation with the Clinical Program Manager, assess and determine when special services or care is needed for a child, i.e., medication evaluation, psychiatric hospitalization, or specialized outpatient therapies.
Attend external training/conferences to and keep up to date with current information and developments.
Present information gathered at conferences at weekly clinical meetings.
Attend IEP (Individual Education Planning) meetings as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned.
