About The Position

Cumberland Hospital for Children and Adolescents, located in New Kent, Virginia, provides comprehensive medical, behavioral, rehabilitative, and educational services for children and adolescents ages 2 through 22 who are challenged by co-occurring medical and behavioral diagnoses. Cumberland Hospital is one of the few specialty children’s hospitals providing dual treatment protocols for both medical and mental health issues. Cumberland includes a 62 bed Hospital Program, a 16 bed Inpatient Acute Program, and 30 bed Residential Treatment Program. Our goal is to stabilize medical problems and help children develop positive behavioral coping strategies using an interdisciplinary approach. Visit us online at: www.cumberlandhospital.com The Therapist plans and administers therapeutic treatment, behavior modification, and stress management therapy to assist residents in developing/displaying appropriate behaviors; changes method and degree of therapy when indicated by resident reactions/needs; discusses progress toward goals with residents or families of residents such as medication regiment, family relationships, educational programs, social development, discharge plans, and other behavioral problems; develops and implements appropriate discharge planning with resident, family, and placing agency; assess treatment goals and write goal-directed, individualized treatment plans, as well as the ability to monitor and document individual behavior patterns and modify treatment plans to meet changing treatment goals.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in a Human Services field (i.e. Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, Education) required
  • LPC, LCSW, etc. or license eligible in Virginia preferred
  • Experience working with children and adolescents who experience behavior dysfunction secondary to brain injury, autism, and other developmental disabilities, chronic medical disorders and other severe and chronic impairments, and their caregivers preferred
