About The Position

The Guidance Center is a recognized leader providing a broad range of services to help children, adults, and families since 1958. With 25 programs, they offer treatment, prevention, growth, and education services to over 14,200 people annually. The Children’s COP SUD Therapist is responsible for maintaining a caseload of children, adolescents, and families with primary substance abuse and/or mental health diagnoses. This role involves collaborating with professional team members from TGC and other providers/systems to integrate service delivery. The therapist must conduct intake assessments, maintain case records promptly, complete authorizations with various funding sources, and provide appropriate treatment services based on medical necessity. Full-time staff work 37.5 hours per week, including a minimum of 4 hours per week after 5:00 pm. The position is in the field of social work, counseling, psychology, and substance use disorder.

Requirements

Minimum of a Master’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, or Counseling.
Possess the corresponding State of Michigan licensure (LLMSW, LLPC, TLLP, LMSW, LPC, or LLP) or obtain state licensure within a 60-day training period.
Obtain the Child Mental Health Professional credential within 120 days of hire.
Possess a CAADC credential, or be on an active, approved registered MCBAP certification Development Plan within six weeks of hire.
One year of experience (may include fieldwork or internship) treating or working with people diagnosed with mental illness and substance use disorders.
Cultural competency.

Responsibilities

Meet all contract requirements of funding sources and/or agency, including maintaining CAADC/Development Plan Certification and State licensure.
Participate in the delivery of clinical services, including intake evaluations, substance abuse screenings, assessments, and direct treatment for children, adolescents, and families.
Conduct Intake Assessments, including all necessary opening paperwork (Psychosocial Assessment, financial and demographic forms, etc.).
Gather and integrate information from all available sources, including client self-reports, reports from family members, guardian(s), probation officers, and documented medical/treatment history.
Assist with the development of comprehensive Person-Centered Treatment Planning with consumers and other members of the treatment team.
Provide face-to-face clinical interventions, in the office, to each assigned consumer at least monthly.
Provide individual, family, and group therapy.
Conduct crisis planning with clients.
Provide parent education, coaching, and training.
Provide referrals for services and community resources as needed.
Work collaboratively with others in relation to the child and family, including psychiatrists, primary care physicians, Wraparound facilitators, school personnel, and other family service or support people.
Advocate on behalf of the child and family to assist them in meeting their needs and reaching their desired level of self-sufficiency.
Assess client satisfaction and participate in program evaluation as needed.
Participate in clinical supervision, team meetings, and case consultations.
Complete clinical records and agency documentation in a timely manner consistent with policies and procedures.
Work with other COP and Guidance Center staff in addressing unit and agency issues and student supervision.
Follow The Guidance Center’s professional code of ethics.
Represent The Guidance Center in the community in a professional manner.
Maintain appropriate state licensure or certifications.
Complete 24 hours of training per calendar year specific to children or adolescents.
Develop schedule with supervisor and work at least 4 hours each week after 5:00 pm.
Provide 23 hours of billable service per week (for full-time staff).
Coordinate effective discharge planning prior to case closure.
Perform other duties as assigned.
