About The Position

Behavioral health and substance use treatment are an important part of supporting individuals receiving Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) while incarcerated and preparing for successful reentry into the community. The Therapist – Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) provides behavioral health and substance use services to individuals in the Hampton City Jail. This role provides assessment, counseling, treatment planning, and care coordination while working with jail staff, medical providers, and community partners to support recovery and continuity of care.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Social Work or Counseling
  • One year of clinical experience in a substance use disorder and/or correctional setting
  • Must be eligible for Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC) supervision approval in Virginia within 30 days of hire.
  • Must successfully pass a criminal history fingerprint background investigation, DMV record check, Child Registry search, drug screening test and employment reference checks.

Responsibilities

  • Completing behavioral health and substance use assessments
  • Developing individualized treatment plans
  • Providing individual and group counseling
  • Responding to behavioral health and substance use crises
  • Providing recovery-focused education
  • Coordinating discharge planning and community referrals
  • Maintaining accurate electronic health records
  • Participating in multidisciplinary team meetings
  • Collaborating with the H-NNCSB Re-entry Coordinator, correctional staff, medical providers, and community partners to support MAT/MOUD services and continuity of care
