Requirements

  • Graduate Degree required. Master’s Degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience required.
  • LPC, LCSW, LMFT, Clinical Psychologist or PMHCNS required.
  • Nonviolent Crisis Intervention certification required within 3 months.
  • BLS required within 3 months of hire.
  • Approval by the Virginia Board of Social Work, Virginia Board of Counseling to provide supervision towards licensure within 3 months of hire.
  • Good working knowledge of computers.
  • Ability to care for Behavioral Health and Substance Abuse Age Specific populations.
  • Constant standing, frequently walking, and bending/stooping.
  • Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to write legibly.
  • Ability to lift/push/pull 100 lbs. For any weight over 35 lbs., use Safe Handling Equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Making treatment and level of care decisions independently.
  • Collaborating as needed with physician providers.
  • Completing patient assessments.
  • Planning for therapeutic interventions and appropriate follow-up care.
  • Implementing treatment plans.
  • Coordinating the treatment process.
  • Providing services appropriate to the age and cultural diversity of the patients served.
  • Providing supervision toward licensure for unlicensed therapists within the Behavioral Health Department.
  • Upholding and demonstrating the UVA Mission, Vision and Values: Compassion, Diversity, Personal Excellence, and Teamwork.
  • Providing guidance to team members as they navigate patient concerns through teaching, good communication, and trust building behaviors.
  • Utilizing relationship building skills through rounding to provide training and coaching to team members on how to effectively connect with patients.
  • Using patient feedback to create innovative ideas to meet patient needs.
  • Ensuring team members have pertinent information to educate patients on procedures and process.
  • Developing and maintaining positive relationships with team members, leadership, and community providers.
  • Demonstrating a willingness to adjust activities to accommodate the needs of team members.
  • Developing team members through mentoring, precepting, orientation, and timely feedback.
  • Collaborating with leaders and other team members for positive experiences for patients.
  • Implementing treatment plan using best practice modalities and interventions to obtain optimal patient outcomes.
  • Establishing and maintaining control of violent patients, defending self and others against violent assaults, and reacting appropriately during a psychiatric crisis.
  • Continuing professional development and assuming responsibility as a self-directed professional for continuing education.
  • Performing additional duties as assigned.
