This position works under the supervision of the inpatient Clinical Manager to provide quality therapeutic services for patients and their families, including individual, family, and group therapy, assessment, treatment planning, and documentation. The goal is to reduce or eliminate psychological, behavioral, or chemical dependency problems that necessitated admission. The Therapist I actively performs as a member of an interdisciplinary team, demonstrating the knowledge and skills necessary to provide clinical care appropriate to the age of the patient served. As part of the interdisciplinary team, this role leads multi-disciplinary rounds and treatment teams to ensure patient treatment goals are identified and reviewed as part of discharge planning. Key duties include accurately assessing biopsychosocial functioning of assigned patients and residents using effective interviewing skills, behavioral observation, mental health assessment skills, and collateral sources of information, and synthesizing this information into written treatment plans. The therapist provides clinically sound individual, family, and group therapy interventions appropriate for age, stage of development, and level of functioning, serving as the point of contact for family members and ensuring their active participation with patient consent. This role also involves educating families on suicidality, diagnosis, and plan of care, addressing patient/family questions, and collaborating with the interdisciplinary team to integrate clinical interventions with the plan of care and evaluate progress. Thorough medical record documentation is required, and the therapist is expected to maximize clinical supervision, apprise the Director of complex issues, and maintain relationships with referral sources and community providers. The position also involves taking on additional work during periods of high census and utilizing non-patient care time productively.
