About The Position

This full-time, fixed-term role (until August 27th, 2027) is within the Keep Embracing Your Success (KEYS) program, which supports young people aged 12-17 experiencing complex emotional and behavioural challenges. The program aims to help young people stabilize behaviors and build skills for transition from residential care to community-based options. The Therapeutic Specialist will provide direct and indirect mental health support, lead the development of therapeutic assessments, implement treatment recommendations, and consult with team members on trauma, attachment, and developmental difficulties. This role requires substantial experience with young people facing complex trauma, mental health issues, disability, and substance use.

Requirements

  • Master of Psychology, Bachelor or Master of Social Work, Masters Family therapy or Bachelor of Applied Science (OT), Bachelor or Master of Occupational Therapy, and eligibility for registration with the applicable professional association.
  • Victoria Driver’s License.
  • Experience developing intervention plans and mentoring and coaching staff in therapeutic responses.
  • Experience with trauma/mental health of children and young people.
  • Experience providing secondary consults and training for clinical staff working with children and young people experiencing impacts of trauma.

Nice To Haves

  • Formalised accreditation in providing clinical practice, such as Medicare accreditation.

Responsibilities

  • Promote the ability of young people to manage their mental health or recover from the effects of trauma with direct client work.
  • Resource staff to provide nurturing, therapeutic, reparative care for young people who present with complex needs.
  • Provide direct and indirect mental health support to young people.
  • Lead the development of a therapeutic assessment and implementing treatment recommendations.
  • Provide consultation to other team members around trauma, attachment and developmental difficulties.
