Immanuel Communities is currently seeking a Therapeutic Recreational Specialist to join our team at Newport House , located at 6798 North 67th Plaza, Omaha, NE 68152. Newport House offers a welcoming environment with 24 skilled nursing and rehabilitation suites and 72 long-term care suites , providing exceptional care to our residents.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Recreation Therapy or related field.
  • Two (2) years’ experience as a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist.
  • Additional experience in therapeutic recreation within a skilled nursing facility.
  • Completion of Nebraska-certified “Activity Coordinator” course or certified therapeutic recreation specialist within 6 months of hire.
  • Equivalent years of education may substitute for experience requirement.
  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

Responsibilities

  • Provide opportunities for residents/patients to engage in continuing life experiences.
  • Maintain dignity and independence through the Therapeutic Recreation Program.
  • Contribute to the therapeutic environment in the long-term care, skilled, and subacute rehabilitation areas of the facility.
  • Encompass group and individual activities including emotional, social, spiritual, intellectual, creative, and community components.
  • Work collaboratively with all members of the interdisciplinary team including residents and family members, physicians, pastoral care, pharmacy, nursing, volunteers, vendors, and other staff members.
  • Interact effectively with adult and geriatric populations including persons with physical disabilities, vision and hearing limitations, and memory/behavioral impairments.
