About The Position

The Parks and Recreation Department is hiring Therapeutic Recreation Aides to join their team! This is a seasonal position with variable hours up to 40 per week depending on department need. The City of Steamboat Springs is looking for passionate individuals who are proud to serve the community with excellence and distinction. This role involves serving as a 1:1 aide for children with special needs in youth school year and summer licensed day care programs.

Requirements

  • Over the age of 16 required
  • Experience working with children
  • Must have a passion for working with children
  • Knowledge of recreation philosophy, planning and administration
  • Knowledge of the equipment, facilities, operations and techniques used in a comprehensive community recreation programs
  • Must have the physical ability to lead and participate in camp activities which may include running, swimming, hiking, lifting, team building initiatives, physical games, and creative programs
  • Skill in operation of listed tools and equipment
  • Ability to work in a variety of climates, indoor and outdoor
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, other agencies, participants, instructors, community leaders, and the general public
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
  • General knowledge of State of Colorado licensing rules and regulation, Colorado Department of Health and the Environment rules and regulation.
  • Valid state driver's license if applicable
  • First Aid and CPR certification or ability to obtain
  • Must pass criminal CBI, FBI, Motor Vehicle, and Dept. of Human Services background check
  • Ability to obtain all certifications as required by the State of Colorado Dept. of Early Learning

Responsibilities

  • Serves as an ambassador of the City of Steamboat Springs and upholds City values of Service, Teamwork, Integrity, Well-being, Respect and Compassion, while always espousing safety.
  • Works as a 1:1 aide working with children with special needs staff in seasonal programs, present during operations of scheduled program hours, including nights and weekends.
  • Helps plan and execute daily activities in a safe, developmentally appropriate environment.
  • Help to enforce any and all rules and guidelines for programs while ensuring appropriate accommodations.
  • Serve as liaison between program participants (i.e. venders/families) and Recreation Division.
  • Maintain the inventory and physical quality, cleanliness and safety of any program supplies, facilities, equipment, tools, food, and vehicles.
  • Effectively Communicate with staff for additional needs based on the child, parents, and plans in place.
  • Maintain personal trainings and certifications as required by the state.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Attend staff meetings and trainings, divisional, departmental, and organizational.
  • Assumes the responsibilities of a Group Leader or Director in his/her absence.
