About The Position

The Department of Radiation Oncology at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW), seeks a Medical Physicist to join our expanding Radiation Oncology Department. This position is located in Milwaukee, WI at our Froedtert Campus. We are comprised of nationally and internationally renowned, dedicated group of faculty and staff with a strong commitment to clinical care. The position involves providing medical physics service for patients treated with radiation therapy and developing technology and methods to improve the effectiveness of radiation treatment. This includes calibration and maintenance of radiation treatment planning and delivery equipment, establishing and conducting a quality assurance program, and providing clinical physics support in routine radiation therapy clinic. Special procedures include brachytherapy, stereotactic radiation therapy, and total body irradiation. The role also encompasses program development to improve radiation treatment planning and delivery, developing practice standards for new treatment approaches, and participating in the development of new technologies and methods through translational and clinical research. Additionally, the position involves the education and training of future radiation therapy professionals, maintaining necessary records for accreditation agencies, and participating in the safety program of the institution and department, with an emphasis on radiation safety. Continuing education for students, staff, residents, and staff oncologists is also a responsibility. The primary work location will be at the Milwaukee, WI Froedtert Campus.

Requirements

  • PhD
  • Completion of Radiation Oncology Medical Physics Residency
  • ABR (or equivalent) board certified or eligible – Radiation Therapy Physics Certification must be obtained within three years from date of hire

Responsibilities

  • Provide medical physics service for patients treated with radiation therapy
  • Develop technology and methods to improve effectiveness of radiation treatment
  • Calibration and maintenance of radiation treatment planning and delivery equipment consistent with national protocols
  • Establish and conduct a quality assurance program consistent with national protocols
  • Providing clinical physics support in routine radiation therapy clinic, including support of treatment planning, treatment delivery, and special procedures such as brachytherapy, stereotactic radiation therapy, total body irradiation
  • Program development to improve radiation treatment planning and delivery by implementing new approaches in treatment planning and delivery
  • Development of practice standards for new treatment approaches which are consistent with national standards, and which provide for patient and staff safety
  • Participation in the development of new technologies and methods to improve radiation treatment effectiveness through translational and clinical research
  • Participation in education and training of future radiation therapy professionals including radiation oncologists, medical physicists, dosimetrists and therapists
  • Maintain proper records necessary for APEx, JCAHO, NRC, State of Wisconsin and other agencies
  • Participate in the safety program of the institution and department, with emphasis of radiation safety
  • Provide continuing education for students, staff, residents and staff oncologists
