About The Position

Mercy High School in Farmington Hills is seeking a full-time Theology teacher to join the Religious Studies Department for the 2026–2027 school year. The successful candidate may teach a variety of theology courses and must be a practicing Catholic who is committed to sharing the faith and fostering the moral and spiritual development of high school students within a welcoming and engaging learning environment. Candidates should support and embody the Mercy charism and the school’s Core Values in both word and action. Qualified applicants should demonstrate the following competencies and possess the ability to foster a welcoming, engaging, and inspiring learning environment for students:

Requirements

  • Be a practicing Catholic with a strong understanding of Catholic liturgy and tradition.
  • Completion of the Archdiocese of Detroit’s Protecting God’s Children workshop and a successful background check prior to employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Hold a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theology (Masters preferred), Pastoral Ministry, or a related field, as well as catechist certification through the Archdiocese of Detroit.
  • Have a minimum of two years of experience in teaching high school theology and/or relative ministry or teaching experience.
  • Be open to ongoing professional growth, including participation in development opportunities related to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.

Responsibilities

  • Create engaging lesson plans using a variety of instructional styles designed to support mastery of grade level essential outcomes consistent with school goals and objectives.
  • Take ownership for student academic progress and show an active interest in student achievement.
  • Provide individual and small-group instruction to adapt delivery to meet the needs of students with varying academic skill levels.
  • Support an atmosphere that accelerates each student's academic, spiritual, social and emotional growth and achievement in alignment with the school’s mission.
  • Contribute as a team player and supportive member of the Mercy community.
  • Sustain an effective system of shared leadership and responsibility throughout the school.
  • Work effectively and willingly with students of diverse backgrounds, including race, culture and socio-economic status.
  • Have effective verbal and written communication skills in interacting with various stakeholders.
