About The Position

The Natural History Museums of Los Angeles County (NHMLAC) is seeking a Theatrical Technician for its Education & Programs department. This role is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and operation of audiovisual and lighting equipment and software, as well as assisting in the planning and development of audiovisual and lighting components for programs. Requirements

  • Position requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Theater Arts or related field or a minimum of two years professional experience with theatrical production, including two or more years of professional experience in implementing and maintaining audiovisual systems and lighting for live performances.
  • Knowledge and experience with software based live show controls.
  • Experience with low-voltage cabling, termination, live sound and production, and audio mixing for wireless microphones.
  • Proficiency with a variety of media and design-related software (e.g. Photoshop, Digital Performer, Flash, After Effects, AutoCAD).
  • Must be self-motivated, detail oriented with strong communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with others on teams, cross-departmentally, across an organization and external audiences.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with all levels within an organization.
  • Capable of organizing and prioritizing work independently in order to meet agreed upon deadlines.
  • Excellent collaborative, project management and supervisory skills needed for optimum team based project development.

Responsibilities

  • Installation, de-installation, programming, maintenance, research and troubleshooting of audio visual and lighting equipment, supplies, systems and software for Performing Arts live theatrical programs and NHM Commons Theater.
  • Creation and editing of media for Performing Arts live theatrical programs and NHM Commons Theater.
  • Mixing and troubleshooting of live audio for performances utilizing wired and wireless microphone systems, sound cues and playback devices, recording devices, and other audio equipment.
  • Operation of theatrical lighting equipment for live performances and events, including lighting consoles, theatrical lighting instruments, DMX control systems, and other lighting equipment.
  • Set up, operation, troubleshooting and maintenance of video projection, playback, and recording devices, including projectors, cameras, and other video equipment.
  • Works with Manager, Performing Arts on the maintenance and repair of audio systems housed within full-suit cable-controlled and animatronic puppets.
