About The Position

The Lansing School District is seeking a passionate and creative Theatre/ Art Teacher to inspire students through dynamic instruction in acting, stagecraft, and performance. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in theatre, performing arts, music, or music education required (or related field)
  • Michigan Teacher Certification in Art, Music, or English strongly preferred
  • Previous successful experience teaching in an urban high school environment
  • Previous performing arts experience
  • Previous experience putting on large scale drama productions in a school or community theatre environment
  • Knowledge of restorative justice practices
  • Knowledge of stagecraft and dramatic production
  • Must be able to move throughout the building and campus, including classrooms, hallways, and outdoor spaces.
  • Frequent verbal communication is required to instruct students, lead meetings, and collaborate with staff and families.
  • May be required to stand or walk for extended periods, including during supervisory duties.
  • Occasional bending, reaching, or sitting on the floor to interact with students.
  • Regular use of computers and instructional technology for planning, instruction, and communication.
  • Must be able to lift or carry instructional materials and supplies weighing up to 25 pounds.
