About The Position

Theater technicians are generally responsible for the backstage area, including serving as stagehands, Stage Managers, and audio and lighting technicians. This role includes, but is not limited to, the setup and strike of lighting/sound equipment, construction of scenery for the Fine Arts department, the general University, and public functions held in the Broad Auditorium.

Requirements

  • Must be a Barry University student
  • Ability to follow set/light plots and instructions
  • Must be able to handle tools and machinery in a safe manner

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of sound and light boards is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the operation of sound and/or lighting equipment, setting up and operating sound and light equipment.
  • Maintain general upkeep of equipment.
  • Organize equipment in a neat and orderly manner.
  • Assist in maintaining the facility clean, safe, and organized, following all established policies regarding cleanliness, safety, and proper disposal of materials.
  • Secure facilities, working materials, and tools after each day’s work.
  • Assist with event rigging, preparation, and Theatre restoration.
  • Reweigh rigs, repaint the stage, restore the everyday house light plot, and restack materials.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or required.
