Test Validation Engineer

NuroMountain View, CA
$132,300 - $198,450

About The Position

Nuro is seeking a Test Validation Engineer to build and evolve their automated hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) validation framework for ADAS/autonomous driving ECU and system testing. This role involves translating validation requirements into automated test cases, executing and debugging tests on HIL benches, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure release readiness. The engineer will also support automated regression and release testing, and contribute to building and maintaining shared framework components as new vehicle platforms and ECU releases are added.

Requirements

  • Bachelor or Master's degree in a relevant engineering or a related field (including ME, EE, CS, Robotics, Controls, Aerospace) or equivalent practical experience
  • 3 + years experience in data analysis and test scripting/automation experience (C/C++, Python, Matlab/Simulink).
  • 3+ years experience in Test planning and experimental design, especially designing for safety and repeatability.
  • Proficiency in Automation test frameworks.
  • Understanding of autonomous driving vehicles, infrastructure, and operations.
  • Practical experience with HIL/bench hardware integration (power supplies, DAQ/I/O, cabling, and basic electrical debugging) and general vehicle or embedded electrical systems knowledge.
  • Experience designing repeatable, safety-conscious test plans with deterministic setup/teardown and clear experimental boundaries.
  • Familiarity with vehicle electrical architecture, controlling mechanisms, and the integration process.
  • Able to adapt quickly, think independently, and function effectively in a fast-paced start-up environment.
  • Strong Python skills and hands-on experience building or maintaining automated test frameworks (pytest preferred).
  • Ability to interpret wiring harness diagrams, electrical schematics, and mechanical drawings in relation to vehicle networks (CAN, Ethernet, etc) and their interaction with other automotive systems.
  • Strong cross-functional communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with engineering, product, and other teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Understanding of NI PXI based test systems or other commercial HIL platform experience and real-time bench automation.
  • Understanding of systems engineering principles such as defining requirements and formal verification and validation
  • Experience in hands-on troubleshooting at circuit board and module system levels, including systems integrated within a Vehicle network.
  • Requirements-based validation workflows and formal test case management.
  • CI/CD for hardware validation, structured reporting, and test artifact management.

Responsibilities

  • Build and evolve our automated hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) validation framework used for ADAS/autonomous driving ECU and system testing.
  • Translate formal validation requirements into repeatable automated test cases covering nominal operation, fault handling, timing, communication integrity, and safety-related behavior.
  • Execute and debug validation on HIL benches using vehicle network interfaces, embedded target access, fault injection, and system emulation.
  • Partner with firmware, systems, and validation teams to define test coverage, investigate failures, and improve release readiness.
  • Support automated regression and release testing, including pre-test firmware deployment, orchestrated test execution, and structured result reporting.
  • Build/Maintain shared framework components as new vehicle platforms, ECU releases, and validation domains are added.

Benefits

  • annual performance bonus
  • equity
  • competitive benefits package
